In a match-up with Hillary Clinton, the results are the same--McCain 49% Clinton 41%. McCain now leads both Democrats among unaffiliated voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Ohio shows John McCain leading Barack Obama 47% to 40%. He also leads Hillary Clinton 47% to 42%. Last month, McCain led both Democrats by six percentage points.

Former Ohio Congressman Rob Portman has been mentioned as a possible Vice Presidential candidate for John McCain. Eleven percent (11%) of the state’s voters say they’d be more likely to support the ticket with Portman on it while 19% hold the opposite view. Republicans are evenly divided. Among unaffiliated voters, 6% would be more likely to vote for McCain with Portman on the ticket and 20% less likely.  read more »

WASHINGTON (AP) - Republican Sen. John McCain has erased Sen. Barack Obama's 10-point advantage in a head-to-head matchup, leaving him essentially tied with both Democratic candidates in an Associated Press-Ipsos national poll released Thursday.

The survey showed the extended Democratic primary campaign creating divisions among supporters of Obama and rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and suggests a tight race for the presidency in November no matter which Democrat becomes the nominee.

McCain is benefiting from a bounce since he clinched the GOP nomination a month ago. The four-term Arizona senator has moved up in matchups with each of the Democratic candidates, particularly Obama.  read more »

John McCain holds statistically insignificant leads over both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in New Jersey. It’s McCain 45%, Clinton 42% and McCain 46%, Obama 45%. This reflects a significant change from a month ago when Clinton held a double-digit lead over McCain.

McCain now leads Clinton by twenty-nine points among men in the Garden State. Clinton leads McCain by twenty-one points among women. With Obama as the nominee, the gender gap is smaller—McCain leads by nine among men but trails by seven among women.

John McCain is ahead of both Hillary Clinton in the latest Gallup Tracking Poll. McCain trailed both Dem candidates earlier in the month, but has now taken slight leads over Clinton and Obama:

47% John McCain
44% Barack Obama

47% John McCain
45% Hillary Clinton










Sen. John McCain is holding strong leads in North Carolina over both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in a Rasmussen Poll conducted March 20, 2008.

50% John McCain
34% Hillary Clinton

51% John McCain
42% Barack Obama

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in North Carolina finds John McCain leading Hillary Clinton 50% to 34%. The Arizona Senator also leads Barack Obama 51% to 42%.

In both match-ups, McCain is essentially even with his opponent among women but has a large lead among men. He also enjoys more support from Republicans than either Clinton or Obama receive from Democrats.

McCain is viewed favorably by 62% of Tar Heel State voters. Obama earns positive reviews from 48%, Clinton from 38%.
