McCain in Missouri
Politico.com is reporting that Sen. John McCain will appear with Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee at a suburban St. Louis rally on August 31, the day before the GOP Convention begins, and two days AFTER he has announced the choice of his Vice-Presidential running mate. This is fueling increased speculation that Mitt Romney will be McCain's choice. If neither Romney or Huckabee is the choice, it would mean the rally will include a fourth person - the nominee McCain has chosen:
Making matters more confusing, Politico has learned that McCain will visit suburban St. Louis, Mo for a major rally with Romney and his still-bitter primary nemesis Mike Huckabee on Sunday, August 31st, the day before the start of the GOP convention.
Top Missouri Republicans yesterday received the invitation for a rally featuring McCain and his two top primary challengers. They'll be joined by country star John Rich at a minor league baseball stadium in O'Fallon, Mo, about 35 miles west of St. Louis.
Missouri was hard-fought territory on Super Tuesday, with each of the three Republicans faring well. So the event would seem to represent a pre-convention unity rally in a swing state where each has a strong following. But Huckabee and Romney can hardly stand one another, and Huckabee has warned against selecting his once and perhaps future rival twice this month.
It would take a considerable act of pride-swallowing for Huckabee to stand before thousands of fans and watch as McCain touts Romney as his running mate.
But then it would take the same amount of magnamity for Romney to join such a rally the day before the convention if McCain has tapped somebody else as his vp and it's that person who McCain is lauding in Missouri.

Here is video in three parts of today's speech (April 7, 2008) by Sen. John McCain to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. From the introduction McCain received, it is clear how VFW feels about the need to elect a President who will not say with words alone he/she "supports the troops," but will prove it by supporting the mission they have sacrificed and died for as well. McCain delivers a great speech here, making it clear that the Democrats are offering a recipe for disaster in calling for a "reckless and irresponsible retreat from Iraq," a plan that would lead to even greater sacrifice and bloodshed in the future. (NOTE: The volume on the videos is quite low - so turn up the sound on your computer):

John McCain hit Democratic rivals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama hard today at a Town Hall Meeting in St. Louis for their recent protectionist talk on NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement:. McCain, in contrast to Obama and Clinton, described himself as a "free trader:"
Republican presidential candidate John McCain criticized his Democratic rivals on Tuesday for pledging to renegotiate a hemispheric trade treaty that Democrats blame for U.S. manufacturing job losses.
At a town-hall meeting in St. Louis, the Arizona senator also called for the Democratic-controlled U.S. Congress to approve a free-trade treaty with Colombia that is being stymied on Capitol Hill.
"On trade, I'm a free trader," McCain told employees at Savvis Internet company, a session dominated by questions about the ailing U.S. economy. . . .
In recent weeks, both Democratic rivals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have increased their criticism of the North American Free Trade Agreement linking the U.S. economy with those of Canada and Mexico. read more »
