I think most of us here get our news from a variety of places. Places that do more than publish biased sound bites. Most Americans obviously don't because apparently Obama's line about "McCain won't regulate" and "8 more years of Bush" is resonating with undecideds and Ohio starts their register and vote the same day mess today (I think).
Obama is making "McCain is against regulation" the key to his attack. McCain has to punch back on this one because it WAS regulation that got us into this mess. It was regulation that demanded that banks make a certain number of loans to minorities regardless of tbeir financial qualification that brought us to this. And Fanny's and Freddy's Democrat leaders made a killing on this.
It was Obama's Acorn (and his hands are filthy in the Acorn mess) that literally invaded banks that did not make loans to unqualified borrowers. They intimidated lenders and when that ball got rolling, then banks, mortgage lenders and Fanny and Freddy adapted to the new banking: pay bonuses for NUMBERS of loans, not for good loans--Fanny and Freddy would take the paper. Years ago, my husband was a banker. He received a straight salary and his future in the bank depended on how many accounts he brought in and how few loans went bad. He left banking before the NINJA loans, and now I understand why people who make less than us can afford an $800,000 house (I've been asking for several years: how can they DO that. How can that young couple buy THAT house AND a BMW?). Because of this Democrat REGULATION, the basics of sound banking policy went out the window.
And WHY hasn't McCain's support to stop greedy Freedy and Fanny been the NUMBER ONE story? There is video of Barney Frank saying that Fanny and Freddy are fine and the Bush and McCain and Republican efforts to stop the bleeding was ridiculous. Why is Dodd and Frank getting away with their hypocritical acrobatics on this bail-out bill?
A week ago, I was asking why the H*ll hasn't the campaign been trumpeting McCain's action to stop the Freddy and Fanny mess? Why wasn't his warning the number one ad? Why wasn't the Democrat sleazeballs who were on the take from Fanny and Freddy and who stopped legislation on a party vote revealed as the culprits in an ad?
Why isn't the RNC and McCain campaign advertising what exactly was in that so-called "deal" that that pompous prig of a pig's rump, Harry Reid said McCain "ruined". THAT BILL DEMANDED THAT 20% OF MONEY REPAID WOULD GO TO ACORN AND LIKE ENTITIES!
Talk about an earmark!!!

While I understand the basics of economics and economic theory, the Wall Street debacle is so full of esoteric terms that the mechanics are for me are a bit like a Rube Goldberg creation.
I, like most, have been reading and trying to sort out the claims and counter-claims. I found the following article which gives a time-line for HOW this mess exploded and names names. It lays out what happened in layman's language. And guess what? McCain is one of the few who saw this coming and is one of only 3 cosponsors of the legislation that the Democrat's deep froze which would have prevented this disaster. If the Democrats ride this crisis to the White House and retain control over the Congress by spinning this, it will be one of the biggest travesties in history.
The following quote pretty much summarizes who's at fault:
"That such a reckless political stand could have been taken by the Democrats was obscene even then. Wallison wrote at the time: ``It is a classic case of socializing the risk while privatizing the profit. The Democrats and the few Republicans who oppose portfolio limitations could not possibly do so if their constituents understood what they were doing.''"

This is absolutely hilarious. I found in the PUMA blog by Paganpower, but I couldn't find it in the YouTube search feature. So you have to go the long way round to find it.
It's a stupid lie and let me emphasize the word "stupid". There's a line even in politics which you don't cross and outright lying is that line. McCain loses credibility in his very long and very consciencious life. This is dishonorable.
My suggestion is that McCain comes out and says "It is a screwup. We apologize." Period. If Nixon had admitted the mistake, Gerald Ford would have never been President. For God's sake, let's not forget we're supposed to be the good guys.
And if I were McCain, I would schedule a required attendance meeting for all campaign staff, and I'd make these people watch the movie, "Man For All Seasons". Thomas More is the touchtone for this campaign. Don't forget it.

McCain can't use a computer is an important thing? But the response needs to showcase the fact that Obama can't master a simple voting machine. He has trouble telling the red "no" button with the "yes" green button--but he has the "present" button down pat.
Obama "mistakenly" voted wrong on SIX important bills--he rose after the vote to say he goofed up. So, let's talk about "mastering" gadgets.
And I love it that Obama is going to have enough time as President to essentially do his own secretarial work and play on the internet....I'm impressed.
Several weeks ago, I posted that I suspected Bill O'Reilly was in the tank for Obama. After his show last night and his plans to stomp all over McCain's acceptance speech Thursday with an "exclusive" interview with Obama, I'm now convinced. I sent him the following e-mail and plan on copying this e-mail on every blog and political page that will accept it. I am beyond disgusted with the media in general and am deeply, deeply disappointed in people I used to admire. Fox News has gone to the dark side (did any of you see even Shepard Smith, in the middle of a hurricane, delightedly crow about Bristol's pregnancy? I used to think HE was a nice young man.), so I'm not sure where the heck this news junkie is going to get her news (suggestions anyone?). It's an ugly world and it's getting uglier.
My letter to Bill O'Reilly:
Sir:
I’m one of the millions who watch your show nightly. Last night, I switched to C-Span and after your decision to join the Obama team in preempting John McCain’s acceptance speech on Thursday, I will no longer be an O’Reilly viewer.
Yesterday, I heard your advertisements for the September 2nd show wherein you promised a show dedicated to the degradation of Sarah Palin and her 17 year old daughter. Turning you off may be as quixotic as Don Quixote defending Dulcinea, but to quote your chosen candidate, “Enough!” Remember the vile video where a group of teenage girls beat the hell out of one girl? That sickened me as much as anything I’ve ever watched on TV, and your jumping into the feeding frenzy against this young woman and the Governor of Alaska affects me in the same visceral way.
I now see that you are planning to stomp all over John McCain’s night by showcasing Barrack Obama. Tell me. Did you ask John McCain in for an exclusive interview on Obama’s big night? Either you didn’t give McCain the same forum or if you did, McCain demonstrated his own sense of fairness by refusing. I'd say your scheduling is the very definition of "spin". I would, of course, not expect Mr. Obama to show the same sort of grace McCain showed, but I expected better from you. I assume that is the reason Obama accepted your long-standing invitation for an interview on this night of all nights. Chris Mathews must be proud.
I didn’t always agree with you, but I respected you. Not any more. There is no decency in attacking a 17 year old girl for either ratings or politics; and there is no fairness in giving Obama a stage to attack McCain on the night of his accepting his party’s nomination. McCain gave up the first night of his convention to do the right thing, and you are going to do everything you can to insure that his message is not heard or seriously diluted on the last night of the convention.
Can we assume that your 13-part series on Barrack Obama’s background has been cancelled?

The ad needs to play that video of Obama saying $4.00 gas was about the right price---then it needs to fade to Obama telling us we could solve the crisis by inflating our tires. Then list what McCain proposes: Wind, Solar, Drilling, Nuclear, Coal, Natural Gas......
There could also be an ad where an average American explains to Mr. Obama that he/she can't afford a cross-over vehicle and a farmer explaining that there are no cross-over harvesters or tractors and a truck driver asking if there's a new electric engine for his 18 wheeler...We can't wait for the future, Mr. Obama. We need to get to work now....I'll inflate my tires, but I still need gas, Mr. Obama....
WHO is doing McCain's commercials?
Received this e-mail this morning...and I suspect there are a LOT more stories out there. Obama is wowing the German crowds, but you DO remember that this is the Germany that thinks Bush is Hitler and which made it dangerous for our servicemen and their families to leave their bases and their homes? This is the Germany which has one of the largest corporate contributors to Iran and who gets most of their natural gas from Russia, which is Iran's and Chavez's biggest supporters? Someone needs to revive the coverage of Germany's American hating activities.
I'm suspecting that this will not be the only first-hand witness report coming out of the war zone, and someone had best do something about Obama not visiting our troops who are in Germany because of battle-wounds. His Royal Presumptiousness couldn't possibly "use" our wounded warriors as a campaign "prop" because....and we'd better get out there and connect these dots very clearly...he couldn't possible make a visit without his mini state department and his cast of thousands in the news media. He'd rather party hardy in Berlin.

Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to "The War Zone". I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.
As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.
So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.
I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.
If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

Just think. A President with total access to this country's deepest national security secrets couldn't get a job which required a secret, let alone a top secret clearance. He also couldn't get a job in a nuclear power plant. He couldn't even get a job as a NYC cop.
