NBC's Andrea Mitchell Says Rattled Obama Team Privately Suggesting McCain May Have Cheated at Rick Warren Forum - Video 8/17/08
NBC News' Andrea Mitchell said today on Meet the Press that some in the Obama Campaign are saying privately that John McCain may not have been in a "cone of silence" last night at the Rick Warren "Civil Forum on the Presidency" - meaning they are suggesting McCain cheated at the event by hearing the questions Obama was receiving and had time to prepare his answers! Apparently, so bad was Obama's performance compared to McCain's, that Obama's campaign has already resorted to claiming McCain must have cheated to have done so well. The discussion in which Andrea Mitchell makes this statement begins at the 33:08 mark of the video (you'll have to hit play and wait a minute or two for the video to load past that point - then click the progress bar to move to that point).
Methinks John McCain really rattled the opposition with his performance last night!

Coast to Coast w/ Andrea Mitchell
Wasn't it Andrea Mitchell who floated the idea that someone in the McCain camp were somehow involved in Obama’s decision to cancel an opportunity to visit injured troops at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany? [My emphasis added]
Here’s what she had to say about this issue on MSNBC’s, Morning Joe:
MITCHELL:The background on the military flap is that they [Obama campaign] had clearly planned a trip to Ramstein [AFB]...
Clearly, people in the campaign are really angry. They had wanted this to be the final stop on the trip here in Germany, and to do it without the press corps, just to do it on his own...
JOE SCARBOROUGH: It’s curious, if that’s the case, why the campaign didn’t make that announcement yesterday, and allowed stories to go like this. I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of he said/she said in the days to come about this.
MITCHELL: But they thought that they couldn’t win. Yeah. They thought that they were, you know, you know, no-win situation, that the Pentagon, perhaps the military with cooperation from some Republican operatives and, that’s the sort of scuttlebutt, that there have been some foreign policy advisers of John McCain with connections in the Pentagon who had something to do with this. But that is, perhaps, just the normal political paranoia of the season.
My, my. She's just the little conspiracy theorist, isn't she!
Nice Research!
coffee260,
Nice research and info. on Mitchell. She certainly leans toward Obama in her reporting, but it was interesting to me that in this case she clearly said that some in the Obama camp were "privately" saying that McCain knew the questions ahead of time. So this was not just her view but this is being put out by Obama's people as well. Great to have you comment. Please try your hand at posting as well! We need more posters who back up what they post with links, quotes, etc. Thanks again!
