New York Times Endorsed McCain and Praised His Character Three Weeks Ago

The same New York Slimes (Times) that is out today with a pathetic hit piece on John McCain's ethics, chose to endorse him just over three weeks ago ahead of the New York Primary! In fact, in their endorsement they praised McCain's character:

Still, there is a choice to be made, and it is an easy one. Senator John McCain of Arizona is the only Republican who promises to end the George Bush style of governing from and on behalf of a small, angry fringe. With a record of working across the aisle to develop sound bipartisan legislation, he would offer a choice to a broader range of Americans than the rest of the Republican field.

We have shuddered at Mr. McCain’s occasional, tactical pander to the right because he has demonstrated that he has the character to stand on principle. He was an early advocate for battling global warming and risked his presidential bid to uphold fundamental American values in the immigration debate. A genuine war hero among Republicans who proclaim their zeal to be commander in chief, Mr. McCain argues passionately that a country’s treatment of prisoners in the worst of times says a great deal about its character.

When they chose to endorse McCain on January 25, 2008, they were fully aware of the hit piece they were then preparing. Their attack on McCain is designed to blunt his momentum and obscure the effective attacks he is already landing against Barack Obama. They are trying to buy time for the Democrats, who are locked in what could be a battle to the convention between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. This attack is designed to keep McCain from consolidating support and getting a head start on the General Election, while the Democrats battle it out.

However, it's not going to work. The New York Times lost credibility long ago with everyone but the most far-left loons in America. Most Americans who even follow news know that the NYT has become a mouth piece for all things left, liberal and Democrat. Their attack filled with innuendo and unnamed sources is just the latest in a long line of such attacks on Republican candidates. John McCain must stay focused on the issues and the stark choice Americans will be offered in the Fall General Election.
