He could have mitigated this smarmy, self-serving decision by actually asking Obama for a few "specifics", but as noted in an earlier post, it was a soft-ball intervew where Obama again laid out his foreign policy: talk. Period. That's it.

Most of us non-Ivy League educated people--you know? "The folks"--are PD sure that even the silver-tongue of The One, Himself isn't going to turn Mahmoud Ahmadinejad into Gandi.

You know the specific question I wish he'd asked and then drilled him for specifics? "Senator, if you had been President on September 12, 2001, what would you have done and what would the war against terrorism look like right now?"

And insist that Obama tell us what the political landscape and balance of power in the Middle East would look like today if he'd had America's safety under his control. O'Reilly is such an advocate for specifics (he has a real difficult time understanding the relationship between underlying philosophy and principle and public policy, that we don't want to tax his comprehension skills), I'd really like to know precisely HOW he would have turned a nation of uneducated, essentially 16th century tribesmen, into a viable democracy.

Precisely HOW is Obama going to conduct a war on the ground in the mountains of Afghanistan and pull 16th century tribesmen into the 21st century? Does anyone remember that a ground war in Afghanistan brought down the USSR? Does anyone remember that part of the decision that a strategist looked at when contemplating taking out Saddam was that unlike Afghanistan, Iraq was populated by an educated population that was held captive by a monster? Their civilization was mid 20th century, not mid 16th century. It's a very good thing for Bill O'Reilly that he chose a career in bloviating and didn't consider becoming a military or foreign policy strategist.

And how about Obama's implying that if we weren't stretched so thin militarily, we would have the resources to deal with Putin's invasion of Georgia. "Senator, are you actually advocating putting US Marines into Georgia?"

That "I looked him in the eye and he isn't a wimp thing?" Seems to me that the ONLY person with look in the eye credibility is John McCain: "I looked into Putin's eyes and saw K.G.B."
