Poll Shows Romney Would Help McCain Win Michigan - Survey USA
A new Survey USA poll in Michigan gives strong support to John McCain adding Mitt Romney to the ticket if his major aim is to win Michigan.
McCain leads Obama 41%-37% head-to-head. But when Romney is added to the ticket, McCain-Romney defeat every possible Democratic ticket surveyed:

Michigan is a "must-win" state for Democrats. If McCain could pick it off, he would be well on his way to victory.

This is a strong argument
This is a strong argument for his choosing Mitt Romney to join the ticket. I have not at all been a Romney supporter; but looking at these numbers, Romney on the ticket would appear to make MI not even a battleground state but a Safe McCain one. I agree also that a win in MI, coupled with one in OH (a really TRULY "must" state for us) would just about assure a McCain victory. (Mitt would almost certainly help in OH as well as in MI.) Given Mitt's other advantages as a running mate -- his economic eloquence and his money, as well as strength in NV, CO, and MA (for what it's worth) -- this poll would appear to make Mitt a top pick for McCain's VP. (But Joe Lieberman and Mike Bloomberg poll just as well.)
