Sarah Palin Rockets to the Top of the Speculation List - ONGOING UPDATES
UPDATE 1: Fox News says they have confirmed that Mitt Romney is out of the running.
Sources told FOX News that Romney will not be McCain’s choice, even though Romney is scheduled to appear at the Dayton rally.
UPDATE 2: Carl Cameron says there are now conflicting reports that Palin was not on the Anchorage flight that landed in Dayton, Ohio.
UPDATE 3: Now ABC reports that Sarah Palin's spokesperson has said Sarah Palin will be in Alaska today:
UPDATE 4: Here is seeming confirmation that Sarah Palin did land at an airport near Dayton, Ohio. A man on the ground at the airfield says a woman who got off the plane "was a real close match to Palin":
A Gulfstream IV jet owned by a firm in Kirkland, Wash., landed at Hook Field Municipal Airport late Thursday night is believed to have had Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on board as a passenger.
National media outlets have identified the first-term Alaska governor, the first woman elected to the position, as a possible vice presidential candidate for Arizona Sen. John McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.
McCain is in Dayton today and is expected to announce his running mate sometime later today at the Nutter Center at Wright State University.
According to Rich Bevis of B&B Aero, the fixed-based operator at Hook Field, the jet, a Gulfstream IV which has the flight range to fly from Alaska to Europe, landed at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28.
Bevis said the woman "was a real close match to Palin" and added that the flight crew that's based in the Seattle area was told to fly to Anchorage to pick up their party and fly to Middletown.
Bevis said the jet had a woman, two teenagers and two men on board and that a couple of white vans met the plane, gathered their gear and took the party to an undisclosed location.
But one person who will not be there: Palin. The Governor's spokesperson, Sharon Leighow, tells ABC News she's going to the State Fair in Anchorage, Alaska.
Fox News' Carl Cameron just reported on Fox and Friends that rumors in Dayton, Ohio are circulating that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is in Dayton -- that a flight from Anchorage came into Dayton last night.
He also reported that Pawlenty is now out, and that Mitt Romney is still very much in the running. Cameron also said Wikipedia mentions Palin heading for Dayton!
On Friday, August 29, Fox & Friends reported that Palin's family departed hastily from Anchorage, Alaska aboard a Gulfstream jet that landed near Dayton, Ohio, site of McCain's planned vice presidential announcement. They cited the website Change&Experience.com, which also had correctly leaked travel details for Sen. Joseph Biden to Springfield, Illinois for Barack Obama's announcement.

Sarah Palin
Clearly if she is the choice, it would indicate the boldness of the McCain campaign to do something different. Palin is good choice if the goal is to drag as many disgruntled HRC supporters aboard.
Palin is an attracitve, young candidate who help break the gender barrier in this election!
Good Choice!
Palin
MSNBC just reported Palin is still in "Alaska."
I rather
go by what every body else is saying, Palin is heading towards Ohio.
Hopefully ABC and MSNBC are wrong
Went back and read ABC's report and the phrase "going to the State Fair" is a paraphrase not a quotation. The spokesperson for Gov. Palin could have said that "she is scheduled to attend the State Fair" which would have been a correct statement.
I choose to believe the eyewitness account ...sounds more believable .... and I sincerely hope it is. Gov. Palin would make an excellent choice. I saw her own Glen Beck's show about a month ago and was very impressed with her. She has a 90 % approval rating as governor according to Wikipedia.
I think McCain is assemblying his cabinet in Dayton
BTW, Palin's story is VERY compelling, and her children are Native Americans. A working mother, a fisherman from the deadliest catch, a hunter, a reformer, a conservative, a rugged individualist, a competator and on abortion? It's not above her pay level.
Why is everyone else assembling? McCain just might be introducing his cabinet. Romney, Secretary of the Treasury; Joe Lieberman, Secretary of Defense; Tom Ridge, Secretary of State; Tim Pawlenty, Attorney General; Meg Whitman, Secretary of Commerce; Rudy Giuliani, Homeland Security and Mike Huckabee, Chief of Staff.
Personally, I think it's a great idea and a great unifier
