Wesley Clark Questions McCain's Military Service-McCain Camp Responds Quickly

Jonathan Martin just posted a piece about retired General Wesley Clark's disparaging comments about McCain's military service. I hope Clark has a big mouth because he just put both feet in to it.
The McCain camp responded immediately and with a vengence.

Wesley Clark touches the third rail

On "Face the Nation," the former general — who is supporting Obama — said, "I don't think getting in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to become president."

McCain spokesman Brian Rogers just sent a statement, where he said, "If Barack Obama's campaign wants to question John McCain's military service, that's their right. But let's please drop the pretense that Barack Obama stands for a new type of politics. The reality is he's proving to be a typical politician who is willing to say anything to get elected, including allowing his campaign surrogates to demean and attack John McCain's military service record."

"John McCain is proud of his record of always putting the country first — from his time in the Navy, in Vietnam and through to today. And on the biggest question we've faced in recent years, the war in Iraq, the facts on the ground show that John McCain was right, as Barack Obama is about to find out after failing to visit there in over 900 days.

"John McCain will remain focused on the big challenges facing America — growing our economy and adding jobs, breaking our addiction to Mideast oil, and defending our nation's security. Rather than engage in old style political attacks, we hope Senator Obama will reverse his decision to refuse to appear in town hall meetings where the voters can speak directly to Senators McCain and Obama about the issues facing America."

Wesley Clark

I'm extremely disappointed that a follow solider would make such an outrageous statement against a war hero. Obama must be getting desparate, but attacks on McCain's millitary record are not going to work and will probably blow up in his face.

Why not?

It worked for Bush (AWOL national guard) against Kerry (silver star, bronze star, 3 purple hearts). If you can bash Kerry, why not bash McCain? Seems like the "flip flop" is on the other foot now huh? I know it probably hurts when the other side uses your "stategery" against you, but hey there's and old saying where I'm from, probably where you are from also: fool me once..... mmmm, shame, shame,... ummmmm, well... can't get fooled again.

Livin the life,
Jack the lope

Re: Why Not?

Nice try again Jack.
Perhaps you are "clinging" to the hope of the left and have not bothered to follow up on the facts.(again) :)
From CBS News:
"(CBS) Four CBS News employees, including three executives, have been ousted for their role in preparing and reporting a disputed story about President Bush’s National Guard service.

The action was prompted by the report of an independent panel that concluded that CBS News failed to follow basic journalistic principles in the preparation and reporting of the piece. The panel also said CBS News had compounded that failure with a “rigid and blind” defense of the 60 Minutes Wednesday report.

Asked to resign were Senior Vice President Betsy West, who supervised CBS News primetime programs; 60 Minutes Wednesday Executive Producer Josh Howard; and Howard’s deputy, Senior Broadcast Producer Mary Murphy. The producer of the piece, Mary Mapes, was terminated.

“We deeply regret the disservice this flawed 60 Minutes Wednesday report did to the American public, which has a right to count on CBS News for fairness and accuracy,” said CBS Chairman Leslie Moonves.

McCain Defended Kerry

Jack,
You may have forgotten that McCain immediately and strenously condemned the Swift Boat ads (even though his friend Colonel Bud Day was part of it) and called upon the White House to do the same.
His position has been consistent and not based on political advantage. I cannot say the same for General Clark.

Andrea

Like Kerry, you're apparently hoping for very short memories....

The Swiftboat Veterans were Kerry's fellow officers who were witness to Kerry's conduct in Vietnam. But even that, I think, would have been to let slide had not Kerry returned to civilian life and gone to Capitol Hill to denegrate his brothers in arms. His testimony was a filthy lie and was largely responsible for the treatment of Vietnam Vets when they finally came home. I was there. I heard him. IF there is justice in the next life, his lies and the lives he destroyed and maligned with those outrageous, self-serving, publicity-hunting LIES will be answered for. Some of us put John Kerry right up there beside Jane Fonda as a despicable excuse for a human being. He had no honor and the veterans who also never forgot Kerry's lies against them personally and Kerry's demeaning their service to this country, and t had every right to speak up. Bud Day and his fellows were merely telling the truth about a time, I'm sure, Kerry wished everyone would forget. But they didn't forget and neither did I. I know several retired military folks who never paid attention to politics, but when Kerry became the nominee they registered and voted. Their feelings about that man ran (run) deep and those feelings are the same kind of visceral feeling one has for any betrayer.

Kerry, like Clark, isn't fit to shine John McCain's or Bud Day's shoes.

RE: Wesley Clark

McCain never has said that because of his military record, that qualifies him to be President.

Clark is doing Obama's dirty work while Obama denies it. Different kind of politician......? You be the judge.

Exactly!

Clark acts as though McCains claim to the Presidency is based purely on his heroic service in Vietnam & conveniently ignores the 25 years McCain spent in Congress constantly dealing with national security matters.
McCain may no longer be in the service, but he has most definitely been involved in crucial decisions. Over the last 5 years, his military judgement has proven to be better than that of many of our Generals. McCain put his career on the line for the Surge (which, at one point, was actually called The McCain Surge) and has already taken it upon himself to shoulder CinC level responsibilities.
Obama meanwhile has changed his position on the war about a dozen times and is unconcerned by, and lies about major errors in judgement (for example: saying -more than once- that the Surge would do nothing to significantly reduce causualties - then claiming he never said it.)

Andrea

Stupid Clark...BO's resume is worse than mine and mine's nothing

compared to John McCain's. No wonder Clark got fired from his last post--I've a feeling he made general via sneaky, back-stabbing techniques (and don't we all know someone who got the promotion through just such a method?). Arrogant, dishonorable piece of pond scum. (so do you all want to know how I really feel?)

And while I'm at it, BO's response was despicable: two-faced pip

squeek idiot. "Physical torment"????!!!! Listen, Brother Barack, "torment" is what an eight-year old does to his six-year old sister. McCain was "tortured" and by "torture", we're not talking about the physically harmless waterboarding; we're talking about things from the 13th century; we're talking about things learned from the SS; we're talking about sick, sick, sick stuff---the neverending physical pain kind of stuff that makes drug dealer enforcers look like giggling school girls.

And did ya'll notice that even while scolding his supporters (notice, he didn't even MENTION Clark's name), he had to add a line to remind us all that HE is the victim here, not McCain.

Easy Way to Help With The Money Bomb!

I found 2 sites that could have a potentially huge pay off. One is the John McCain For President site which has 25,000 members and the other is the Stop Barack Obama (One Million Strong and Growing) facebook site which actually has about 90,000 members.

The challenge, of course, is to keep the money bomb post visible. The posts are listed in order of most recent reply- so every time someone replies to a post it gets bumped to the top.

You guys could say something really brief like "Will Donate" or you can go on and on about why you support John McCain, or how you are glad we are having this now to boost morale after the disgraceful comments from Wesley Clark.

It is probably good to go outside the topic a bit, actually because it will give people something to respond to- thus keeping it bumped.

On JM4P my post is called Money Bomb on July 4th and on SBOOMS&G it is called Mass Donation on July 4th.

Please respond once or twice so we can get the word our!

Thank you in advance,

Andrea
